It’s much more important how often you do something, not how long you do it. Commonly, people say you should hold a stretch for 30 seconds. I never learned anything like that in school. I don’t know how long you should hold a stretch. It’s probably different for everyone. You should hold it as long as it takes for the tissue(muscle) to deform(permanently stretch out.) Maybe that’s 30 seconds, maybe it’s 10. I would much rather you do a stretch 30 times and hold it for 10 seconds than do a stretch 10 times and hold it for 30 seconds. What I did learn in school is you should do an activity a lot, time was not emphasized. To recover from a stroke it takes FREQUENT, HIGH INTENSITY repetitions.
