It’s true when you hear that stress is a killer.  I recently eliminated a very stressful situation from my life and I’m kind of amazed.  I’m doing things now that 3-4 months ago I couldn’t even come close to doing.  My physical problems have improved substantially since I eliminated all the stress I could from my life.  Now is not the time for me to deal with stress.  My only focus is recovery.  Stress will inhibit that greatly.  If you’re dealing with a lot of stress, eliminate it if you can, don’t try to make it better.  You’ll be amazed.

  1. You are so right, Amy. Thank you for the reminder. 🙂

  2. My stress was eliminated by moving to Michigan alone.

  3. I’m not sure if its the brain damage, the lifestyle changes, or my perspective, but since my stroke I not longer a stressed about anything. I’m a “reformed type A”. It’s really amazing, and a huge change!! One of the “deficits” is like to keep.

  4. I’m glad you’ve been able to eliminate stressors to improve your recovery!
I totally agree. I resigned from my job Tuesday and while this brings its own stresses (financial springs immediately to mind), I think I have a better chance at a good recovery now. I certainly feel better physically already! They’d made accommodations to try to allow me to work but I just plain couldn’t do it. I’m also writing more about my experiences with the stroke to try to release some of my emotional stress surrounding the stroke. Thanks for modelling post-stroke blogging for me. I’m finding it very therapeutic.

    • I have financial stress too but it’s not even close to as harmful as what I was dealing with. You’re welcome, I bet you’re really gonna like blogging!

      • I think one of the things I’ve learned from the stroke is how little money is really important and how much more important other things are. I would have said that I knew that before, but I wouldn’t have been willing to live it the way I am now.
And I am really enjoying blogging. It helps a lot!
