Learning to Live With It

Another stroke survivor who is 13 years post-stroke asked me “Do you think you’ll ever get over what happened to you?”  I said “Have you?”  He said “No, I’ve learned to live with it.”  I said “Yes exactly, I’m learning how to live with this, but I don’t think I’ll ever get over it.”

  1. Yes, I too am learning to live with (even accept) it, but I will never get over it.

  2. I’ve heard it said that major things (illnesses, deaths, strokes), you don’t get over, under, or around. You get through.

    • That’s very true. Hey Robin, please don’t take it personally when I say things about doctors, I’m just venting. I say that therapists don’t know anything either. 🙂

      • I am completely with you on doctors not knowing anything! I sure didn’t understand this side of the world until I experienced it, though I tried to be understanding. And I have suffered through a lot of stupidity from doctors in the last three month (starting with them discharging me without PT orders to go back to work whenever I felt up to it).
